CAISD is currently advising Besongsmile, a NY based nonprofit organization on activities in New York and across the South West and Central Regions of Cameroon aimed at providing food to the homeless and building a tuition‐free school for children from orphanages and low‐income communities (often communities where small scale farmers live), respectively.

URBAN AGRICULTURE

Details
Urban Agriculture is also known as urban farming or urban gardening. It is the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food in or around urban areas. The focus of this project is on promoting home, urban, and community cultivation of vegetables.

Goal
Increase the number of small farms/home gardens in Buea and Limbe by 50% year over year.

Due to the cultural and political instability in the English‐speaking regions of Cameroon, there has been a mass exodus of people from the smaller cities and into the bigger cities in these regions. This massive exodus has caused a shortage in large farming land and in the availability of food supplies in the markets. Limited supply has led to higher prices for produce which is increasingly unaffordable to the average person, especially those who moved from the surrounding villages or small cities. The need for urban farming/home gardening is at an all time high and we are here to serve that need.
